Outdoor Coatings That Actually Last Outside

Patios, pool decks, walkways, and driveways — coated with UV-stable systems engineered for Georgia heat, coastal humidity, and bare feet in July.

Outdoor Concrete Is a Different Animal

Coating concrete outside is a whole different ballgame than a garage. The slab bakes in the sun, soaks up afternoon thunderstorms, and sits on ground that never really dries out — this is the Lowcountry, after all. A coating that isn't built for that will fade, blister, or peel by its second summer.

That's why every outdoor system we install finishes with a polyaspartic topcoat — a UV-stable, urethane-family clear coat that will not yellow, chalk, or break down in direct sunlight. And it's why we recommend a moisture vapor barrier on every outdoor slab. Exterior concrete rarely has plastic sheeting underneath it, so ground moisture pushes up through the slab year-round. A dedicated moisture barrier primer stops that vapor pressure from ever getting between your coating and the concrete — it's the single best insurance policy you can buy for an outdoor floor.

Two Beautiful Ways to Go: Flake or Quartz

Outdoor systems come in two decorative styles. Flake gives you the classic granite look — vinyl chips broadcast into a pigmented base for a rich, variegated finish that hides dirt and imperfections. Quartz is the premium outdoor choice: two full broadcasts of colored quartz sand locked into resin, building a thick, sandpaper-textured wear layer that grips wet bare feet and stands up to pool chemistry. Both are sealed under the same UV-stable topcoat.

  • 100% UV-stable — no yellowing or fading, guaranteed by chemistry, not marketing
  • Slip-resistant texture — tuned from gentle to aggressive depending on the surface
  • Cooler underfoot than bare concrete or pavers in the summer sun
  • Moisture barrier recommended on every exterior slab — we test, then we protect
  • Resists pool chlorine, salt air, and mildew — rinse it off and it looks new

Flake or Quartz?

Both are gorgeous. The right choice comes down to where it's going and how it gets used.

Flake Finish

Vinyl Flake System

A pigmented 100% solids epoxy base with vinyl flake broadcast to full coverage, sealed under a clear polyaspartic. The granite-look finish is beautiful on covered patios, porches, and walkways, with a lighter texture that's easy on bare feet and easy to sweep clean.

  • Classic granite look, dozens of blends
  • Softer texture — comfortable barefoot
  • Hides dirt, pollen & slab imperfections
Best ForCovered patios, porches, walkways, entryways
Quartz Finish

Double-Broadcast Quartz System

Two full broadcasts of colored quartz — the first into pigmented 100% solids epoxy, the second into polyaspartic — build a thick, dense wear layer with real tooth. It's the toughest, grippiest outdoor finish we install, and the texture can be tuned from refined to aggressive.

  • Maximum slip resistance, wet or dry
  • Thickest build — made for hard duty
  • Natural stone look in coastal color blends
Best ForPool decks, steps, driveways, high-traffic outdoor areas

Four Surfaces, One Standard

Every exterior surface gets the same treatment: diamond-ground prep, moisture protection, and a UV-stable finish.

Patios

Your patio should be the easiest room in the house — no staining from planters, no mildew creeping across the shade line, no gray slab dragging down a pretty backyard. A coated patio rinses clean with a hose and gives you a finished, intentional look that ties into brick, stone, and Southern landscaping. Flake for covered spaces, quartz where the sun and rain hit hard.

Pool Decks

Wet feet, chlorine, salt systems, and blazing sun — pool decks live a hard life. Our double-broadcast quartz system was made for it: serious wet-traction underfoot, a surface that stays noticeably cooler than bare concrete, and chemistry that shrugs off pool water. It's the difference between a deck that's a liability and one that's the best-looking part of the backyard.

Walkways

Front walks and garden paths set the tone before anyone reaches the door. A coated walkway stays bright, sheds mildew and oak pollen, and adds grip on dewy mornings. We texture walkways for sure footing without making them rough on bare feet headed to the mailbox.

Driveways

A driveway coating has to handle vehicle weight, hot tires, power-steering scrub, and daily sun. Our quartz system builds a dense wear layer that takes all of it, while transforming a stained, tired slab into serious curb appeal. Oil spots wipe up instead of soaking in — for good.

Why We Recommend a Moisture Barrier Outside

It's the least glamorous layer in the system — and the one that decides whether your coating lasts 3 years or 15.

Exterior slabs almost never have a vapor barrier underneath them, and around here the ground stays damp most of the year. That moisture constantly migrates up through the concrete as vapor. Indoors it's a manageable variable we test for; outdoors, it's a certainty.

When vapor pressure builds under a coating, it shows up as blisters, whitening, and eventually delamination — the coating literally gets pushed off the slab. That's why we treat a moisture vapor barrier primer as standard practice on outdoor work: a dedicated epoxy primer engineered to handle high vapor transmission, applied before the decorative system goes down. It bonds into the ground concrete, caps the vapor drive, and gives the rest of the system a stable foundation.

It adds a little to the job. It saves the whole job. That's a trade we'll recommend every single time.

Products Built for Outdoors

Every layer is chosen for one job: surviving coastal Georgia weather without flinching.

Moisture Vapor Barrier Primer

A specialized 100% solids epoxy primer rated for high moisture vapor transmission. It's the foundation layer we recommend on every exterior slab — it locks down vapor drive so the decorative system above it never fights the ground below it.

100% Solids Epoxy Basecoat

The pigmented body of the system, applied thick and squeegeed into every pore of the ground concrete. This is the layer that carries the first broadcast of flake or quartz and anchors the whole build with a bond stronger than the concrete itself.

Polyaspartic Broadcast & Topcoat

Polyaspartic is the outdoor hero: fully UV-stable, flexible enough to ride out slab temperature swings from frosty January mornings to 100-degree July afternoons, and fast-curing so your patio isn't out of commission all week. On quartz systems it carries the second broadcast; on every system it's the clear finish coat that seals the deal. Finish it gloss or satin.

Colored Quartz & Vinyl Flake

The decorative media themselves: kiln-dried colored quartz sand in coastal blends, and vinyl flake in dozens of colorways. Both are broadcast "to rejection" — until the resin can't hold any more — so coverage is dense, uniform, and built to wear evenly for years.

Prep Is Everything

Ninety percent of coating failures trace back to poor preparation. That's why we never skip it — and never rush it.

Outdoor slabs take prep seriously — years of weather, sealers, mildew, and grime have to come off before anything can bond. Our 20–30 inch propane diamond grinders profile the entire surface down to clean, open concrete while SVX-series HEPA vacuums capture the dust, keeping your landscaping, pool, and porch furniture clean. Then we repair cracks and spalls, test for moisture, and lay down the barrier primer.

Propane Diamond Grinders

Our 20–30 inch propane planetary diamond grinders profile the entire slab evenly — no cords, no missed spots, no shortcuts. Every floor is mechanically ground to the correct concrete surface profile (CSP) for the system going down on top of it.

🌀

HEPA Dust Extraction

Our SVX-series industrial HEPA vacuums connect directly to the grinders, capturing dust at the source. Your home or business stays clean, and the slab is left spotless and ready to bond.

💧

Moisture Testing

Coastal Georgia slabs carry moisture. We test every floor for moisture vapor transmission before a drop of product goes down — and apply a dedicated moisture vapor barrier when the readings call for it.

🩹

Crack & Joint Repair

Cracks, spalls, and pitting get patched with fast-setting repair mortars and ground flush. Expansion joints are honored so slab movement never telegraphs through your new floor.

From Tired Slab to Showpiece

Most outdoor projects wrap up in two to three days, weather permitting — and we watch the radar so you don't have to.

1

Diamond Grinding

The slab is ground to a CSP-3 profile — old sealers, stains, and laitance gone.

2

Repair & Moisture Test

Cracks and spalls patched flush; slab tested to confirm the barrier spec.

3

Outdoor Coating FAQ

Will the coating fade or yellow in the sun?+
No. Every outdoor system we install is finished with a polyaspartic topcoat that is 100% UV-stable by chemistry — it does not amber, chalk, or fade. This is exactly why we never leave epoxy as the exposed finish coat outdoors.
Is it slippery when wet?+
Just the opposite — texture is built into the system. Flake finishes carry a light natural grip, and our double-broadcast quartz finish is specifically engineered for wet traction on pool decks. We tune the texture to the surface: more aggressive for pool surrounds and steps, gentler for barefoot patio areas.
Why do you recommend a moisture barrier outside?+
Exterior slabs almost never have plastic underneath, and coastal Georgia ground stays damp. Moisture vapor constantly pushes up through outdoor concrete, and that pressure is the number one killer of exterior coatings. A dedicated moisture vapor barrier primer caps it permanently — small cost, huge protection.
How hot does it get in the sun?+
Cooler than what it replaces. Lighter color blends reflect more sunlight than bare gray concrete, and quartz textures reduce contact with the surface. Pool deck customers regularly tell us it's the first summer they haven't hopscotched to the water.
Can you coat stamped or previously sealed concrete?+
Yes. Our diamond grinders remove old sealers and open up smooth or stamped surfaces so the new system bonds directly to sound concrete. Heavily damaged slabs may need patching or resurfacing first — we'll tell you straight during the estimate.
What about rain during installation?+
We schedule outdoor work around the forecast and won't coat if weather threatens the cure window. Polyaspartic cures fast, which shrinks the window where rain can cause trouble — one of several reasons it's our outdoor finish of choice.
How do I maintain it?+
A hose and a push broom. Rinse off pollen and dirt, and use a mild cleaner for anything stubborn. No sealing schedule, no pressure-washer damage worries, no mildew soaking into the surface.
